Delhi Government has been actively monitoring the price situation of essential edible items. As a part of this price situation of pulses, was reviewed and meetings were held with trade representatives with the food and supplies minister, Mr Asim Ahmed Khan.
All the Trade Associations were advised to cooperate with the state government in ensuring that pulses, which are essential sources of protein for the poor people are available across Delhi at reasonable prices. All concerned were warned against indulging in hoarding or speculative activities.
It was decided that as a first step, all wholesalers/ millers/importers in Delhi will be required to furnish details of their godowns along with stock position of pulses. Further, Food and Civil Supply Department was directed to keep a watch so as to ensure that hoarding activities are prevented.
State government is also actively considering market intervention by creating buffer stock for pulses and releasing as and when required to stabilize prices. Food and Civil Supplies department was also instructed to explore the possibility of drafting a bill for regulation of warehousing activities in Delhi.
