Minor girl gang-raped and hanged in UP village
A 16- YEAR- OLD girl was kidnapped, gang- raped and then hanged from a tree in the Ghurehripur village of Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening.
One of a perpetrators had declared his intentions two days prior to the incident, threatening to commit the deed if the girl ( daughter of a former village chief) turned down his marriage proposal.
The victim’s family had informed police about a man, Arun Kumar, but the police could not arrest him on the basis of a threat.
The former panchayat chief had shifted about 200 metres away from his ancestral house and constructed a new house after last year,s flood in the area and the increasing interference of criminals in the village.
The girl had gone to the adjoining hamlet to attend a function in her uncle,s house.
She, along with her friend, was going towards the field in the evening when Arun and two of his friends pulled her into one of the orchards and scared her friend off.
“I ran away from there and told people about the incident. But the criminals had escaped from there by then. The victim was also not found. Later, we saw her hanging from a tree outside the village. Her clothes were torn off,” the victim’s friend said.
The police have arrested Arun on the basis of her statement and a manhunt has been started to nab the two other miscreants.
“Arun lives in the village. He used to follow my daughter everywhere and harass her. He had threatened to commit this crime,” said the father of the victim.
Anand Veer Singh, circle officer of the area said, “One of the accused has been arrested and the probe is going on.”This incident is proof that the criminals are fearless in the state. As per police records, 849 incidents of rape have taken place in Uttar Pradesh from January 1, 2015 to April 30, 2015.
